GUIDE 03KIOSK MODE

Kiosk Mode

A fullscreen shelf interface designed for any tablet or mounted display at your return station. Techs scan a QR bag label, attach a tracking number, and mark the core shipped — in under 20 seconds.

What Kiosk Mode is

Kiosk Mode transforms any browser tab into a dedicated return-station interface. It occupies the full screen, hides all navigation, and focuses on a single task: confirming that a bagged core has been physically handed to a carrier. There's no way to accidentally navigate away, no notifications, no distractions.

Fullscreen

Locks into fullscreen on activation — no nav, no distractions.

Camera QR scan

Uses the device camera to read the bag's QR label.

Tracking attach

Paste or type a tracking number to link the shipment.

Instant confirm

Status flips to Returned; credit reconciliation begins.

Hardware requirements

DeviceAny tablet, laptop, or mounted display with a modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge)
Camera (optional)Built-in or USB webcam for QR scanning. Front-facing camera works fine at 12–18 inches.
InternetRequired only at startup and when confirming returns. Works offline between scans.
PrinterNot needed in kiosk — labels are printed before cores hit the shelf.

Recommended setup: A 10-inch Android or iPad tablet mounted near the return shelf, plugged in permanently, with CoreBack pinned to the home screen as a PWA.

Step-by-step: using kiosk

01

Open Kiosk Mode

Navigate to App → Kiosk, or tap the Kiosk shortcut on your shelf tablet. Click "Enter Kiosk" to enter fullscreen.

02

Scan the QR label

Allow camera access when prompted. Hold the QR label up to the camera — the scanner confirms the part number, vendor, and due date instantly. Or type the bag ID manually if the label is damaged.

03

Review the item details

The screen shows the full core record: vendor, part number, invoice, due date, and current status. Confirm it matches the bag you're holding.

04

Enter the tracking number

Scan the carrier tracking barcode with a Bluetooth scanner, or paste it from your clipboard. CoreBack auto-detects USPS, FedEx, UPS, and DHL from the number format.

05

Tap "Mark Returned"

Status changes to Returned with a timestamp. The credit reconciliation engine starts watching for a matching credit memo from the vendor.

06

Continue or exit

Scan the next bag, or press Esc to exit fullscreen and return to the shelf view.

Manual entry (no camera)

If the device doesn't have a camera, or the label is unreadable, Kiosk Mode has a fallback:

  1. 1.Tap "Enter manually" on the scanner screen.
  2. 2.Type the bag label ID printed at the bottom of the QR label (format: CB-[YYYYMMDD]-[4 chars], e.g. CB-20240412-X7K2).
  3. 3.Press Enter or tap Search.
  4. 4.The item record loads — proceed with tracking number entry.

Carrier auto-detection

CoreBack identifies the carrier from the tracking number format automatically:

CarrierPattern exampleFormat
USPS940011189922339781428122 digits starting with 94
FedEx77161312799312, 15, or 20 digits
UPS1Z999AA10123456784Starts with 1Z
DHL123456789010–11 digits

Unrecognized formats default to "Unknown carrier" and let you pick manually. The tracking number is still stored and linked to the item.

Tips & best practices

  • Assign one person per shift as the "kiosk operator." Consistency reduces missed scans.
  • Mount the tablet at eye level so the camera is naturally aligned with bag labels placed on a shelf.
  • Use Guided Access (iOS) or Screen Pinning (Android) to lock the browser so techs can't accidentally navigate away.
  • If you use a Bluetooth barcode scanner for tracking numbers, test it in the tracking number field before going live.
  • At shift end, review the shelf view for any OPEN items that should have been scanned but weren't.
